About CoverGuides

CoverGuides is an independent publisher of plain-English insurance guides for very specific situations: a trip to one particular country, one particular car, one particular breed of dog or cat. Big comparison sites write about “travel insurance” in general. We write about what a policy needs to cover when you fly to Havana, insure a Tesla Model 3 or bring home a French Bulldog puppy.

Why specific beats general

Most insurance mistakes happen in the details. A US traveler assumes Medicare works in Mexico (it generally does not). A driver crosses into Baja believing their American policy is valid there (Mexican law does not recognize it). A Golden Retriever owner buys a plan with a low annual limit, then faces a cancer bill several times larger. Each of our guides is built around the details that matter for one situation, so you can make a decision with the right facts in front of you.

How we work

  • Primary sources first. Entry rules come from government and embassy sources; prices come from named, published rate studies, and we always say whose numbers they are.
  • Ranges, not fake precision. Insurance prices depend on your age, location, record and coverage choices. We show the spread between sources instead of a single “average” that may not apply to you.
  • Dated and maintained. Every guide shows when it was last updated. When rules change, such as Europe’s ETIAS rollout or proposed insurance mandates in Thailand and Japan, we revise the guide.
  • No paid rankings. Insurers cannot pay to be recommended or to change what we write.

What we are not

CoverGuides is not an insurance company, agency or broker, and we do not sell policies. Our content is general information, not personalized advice. For decisions about your own coverage, speak with a licensed agent or the insurer directly. See our disclaimer.
