Editorial Policy: How We Research

CoverGuides exists to help people make better insurance decisions in specific situations. These are the standards every guide on the site follows.

Sourcing

  • Entry and legal requirements (for example, whether a country requires travel insurance, or whether a foreign auto policy is valid) are checked against government, embassy, consular or official program sources wherever they exist, and against multiple reputable secondary sources when they do not.
  • Prices are taken from named, published rate studies and insurer disclosures. Because methodologies differ widely, we report the range across sources and name each one rather than presenting a single figure as fact.
  • Medical and veterinary facts (such as breed-specific conditions) come from veterinary references and insurer claims data, and are described in general terms only.

Updates and corrections

Every guide displays its last-updated date. We review time-sensitive guides when rules change and on a regular schedule. If you find an error, email us via our contact page; confirmed errors are corrected promptly and the update date is changed.

Independence and funding

CoverGuides is funded by display advertising, including Google AdSense. Advertisers have no influence over what we write, and ads are visually separate from editorial content. No insurer can pay to be included, ranked higher or described more favorably. If we ever add affiliate links, they will be clearly disclosed on the page where they appear.

Use of AI tools

We use software tools, including AI writing assistants, to help research and draft guides. Every published guide is reviewed for accuracy against the sources it cites, and a human editor is responsible for what is published.

Not advice

Our guides are general information. They do not take your personal circumstances into account and are not a substitute for advice from a licensed insurance professional. See our disclaimer.
